REPURPOSED - Assignment 2

For the second assingment, we were asked to take a piece of writing that we had created for a different college course and target it to a new audience. We had to keep the original in mind, but we were allowed to take it anywhere that we felt strongly about and direct it toward an audience we felt needed attention on the matter.

My original essay was a blog post for my Communications 439 class on journalistic practices. It focused on how dancers at every level are using YouTube to demonstrate and share their artistry with the world, and was aimed at the general population that may be uneducated about dance - specifically dance on YouTube. When I intended to repurpose the essay, I was going to write a "do's and don't's" article on how dancers should be using YouTube. This would shift the audience to mainly dancers. I ended up going in an entirely different direction.

Essentially, by the end of the assignment, the only commonality with the original paper was the dance theme. I felt most passionately sharing now only how dancers should or shouldn't be using social media, but more my fears of how dancers should be acting in a more general sense. I expressed my worry in an open letter format on where the dance community was going, citing competitive dance as one of the sources for the issues occurring. Overall, I hope it's something that dancers and teachers alike enjoy reading. It's intended for those who understand and are a part of the dance community, and the goal would be for these individuals to understand and comment on the argument that I'm making.
